Botox® is an FDA-approved injectable product that contains a refined form of botulinum toxin type A. It temporarily reduces muscle activity in specific areas of the face, often where lines develop from repeated expressions such as smiling, frowning, or squinting.
While it is primarily used in aesthetic settings, it may also be recommended for other purposes, such as helping manage underarm sweating in certain cases.
During the procedure, Botox® is administered using a fine needle directly into the muscles that contribute to expression-related wrinkles. It works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles, causing them to relax. As a result, the skin in those areas may appear smoother while the effects last.
